About the Industry Advisory Board
Industry Executive Board
Our board consists of up to 12 members, with 30% possessing lifetime terms based on their cornerstone roles as founders or significant benefactors. The remainder of the Board is by the other members of the Board including the chairs of the Building Construction, Construction Engineering and Management, and Alumni/Friends Committees.
Criteria for membership include career accomplishments and relationship with Virginia Tech and MLSoC.
Industry Council
The Industry Council is a broader group of school supporters who engage throughout the year and congregate twice per year to attend industry events and socials. If you are interested in learning more about this committee, email the school's Industry Relations Manager.
Academy of Distinguished Alumni and Friends
The Academy of Distinguished Alumni and Friends is comprised of elected individuals who have been deemed leaders of leaders and pillars of the industry who may have provided extraordinary support for MLSoC.
Our Industry Executive Board oversees three main committees:
- Building Construction Committee: Supports the BC degree program, ACCE Accreditation, and the department.
- Construction Engineering and Management Committee: Supports the CEM undergraduate degree program, ABET (EAC+ANSAC) Accreditation, and VCEMP.
- Alumni/Friends Committee: Supports Virginia Tech alumni and friends working in the construction industry who wish to maintain a more engaged relationship with the school through events and giving initiatives.
Each committee is led by a chair appointed by the MLSoC Industry Executive Board and a faculty co-chair. Each consists of members with noteworthy connections to the respective programs.
The Industry Executive Board meets twice a year in addition to the larger industry and student-centric meetings held at the end of each semester. These larger meetings provide opportunities for the Industry Executive Board to engage with the council and school.
Our Board operates under a set of By-Laws, which can be amended or adopted by a majority vote of the Board. These By-Laws outline the structure, functions, and responsibilities of the Board, as well as the governance and membership criteria.
