About the Career Fair
The Construction Industry Career Fair is held during the Fall and Spring semesters. It invites both undergraduate and graduate students to engage with representatives from the architecture, engineering, and construction (AEC) industry. These companies range from large international firms to small local businesses, covering various sectors such as commercial, heavy civil, residential, and specialty areas.
The event provides a platform for students to explore internships, co-op opportunities, part-time, and full-time positions. For employers, the Construction Industry Career Fair presents a valuable opportunity to meet our high-caliber students, known for their comprehensive understanding of construction principles, strong technical skills, and ability to contribute to a team from day one.

Students in all majors interested in working in these and related areas are invited to attend the fair. Pre-registration is encouraged, but not required.
Ahead of each Career Fair, we send out resume books to companies. This is a great way to get your name out to recruiters ahead of the fair. To be part of this resume book, complete the list below before attending the career fair:
- Update your resume.
- Upload your resume to Handshake
- Sign up for the Construction Industry Career Fair on Handshake by Thursday, September 18, 2025, at 5 p.m.
- Click "make visible" in your Handshake profile.

While you can upload your resume after the deadline, please note that it will NOT be included in the book that is sent out to companies.
Put your best foot forward before the Career Fair! We host a Career Fair Prep week to set you up with the essential skills needed to make a day of networking your best one yet!

- Tuesday, September 16 – Career Fair Prep Week: Resume Workshop
- Wednesday, September 17 – Career Fair Prep Week: Pitch Perfect
- Thursday, September 18 – Career Fair Prep Week: Mock Interviews

Every student has the opportunity to connect with potential employers, regardless of their nationality or visa status.
Understanding the unique circumstances of our international students, we've made it easy for you to identify which companies are most relevant to your career path and visa requirements. By using the "Categories" filter on the attending companies list on Handshake, you can easily see which companies "Accept OPT/CPT" or "Will sponsor or do not require a US work visa" — just click the corresponding checkboxes according to your needs under the filters on the employer list page.
During the fair, look for the globe stickers with the Myers-Lawson School of Construction logo next to the company's name banner for companies who are hiring international students.
Career Outfitters, Run by Virginia Tech Career and Professional Development, provides students with free, donated clothing appropriate for career fairs, networking opportunities, and interviews. Currently-enrolled undergraduate and graduate students may schedule an appointment to shop the clothing closet in Smith Career Center, where you will have 1:1 assistance with fit, size, and style.
