Background

Steve Daves is a partner at R. W. Murray Co. located in Manassas, VA where he serves as its Executive Chairman. Mr. Daves has over 34 years of experience in the commercial construction industry, having served in various roles on projects throughout Virginia, Maryland, and the District of Columbia. Mr. Daves joined R.W. Murray Co. as a Project Manager immediately after graduation with a BS in Building Construction from Virginia Tech in 1989 and has been instrumental in the growth of the company through the management and construction of over 16 million square feet of shell building projects and 21 million square feet of interior projects in the Metro DC area. In his capacity as Executive Chairman, Mr. Daves is responsible for the advising the current President and CEO in the overall management of the firm including strategic planning, business development, operations, and the development and implementation of strategies which ensure unparalleled client service, efficiency, quality, and cost-effective management of resources.

Mr. Daves is an Adjunct Instructor at Virginia Tech and he also serves in an executive role on the Industry Advisory Board for the Myers-Lawson School of Construction there.  He was named Outstanding Building Construction Alumnus in 2015 and received the school’s prestigious Myers-Lawson Award in 2023.  He is actively involved in numerous professional organizations, including the Associated Builders and Contractors – Virginia Chapter, for which he served on the chapter’s Board of Directors from 2004 to 2016, serving as the state chapter Chairman in 2010 and was named Member of the Year in 2014, he is a Life Director for the Northern Virginia Chapter of NAIOP and was named Member of the Year in 2005 and Firm of the Year in 2021, he served on the Board of Directors for the Prince William Chamber of Commerce from 2013-2019, he is a 2008 graduate of the Leadership Prince William program and served on its Board of Regents from 2008 to 2010.  He has served in numerous volunteer roles with the local government in his home jurisdiction of Prince William County and is currently serving appointed positions on the Prince William County Building Appeals Board as well as the Virginia Gateway Community Development Authority.
