At the Myers-Lawson School of Construction (MLSoC), our family-oriented safety culture helps us recruit and retain high-quality students to feed the needed talent pipeline for the construction industry and beyond.

Our Culture in Action

MLSoC Guiding Principles

  • That we may serve our students first.
  • That we may serve our students, faculty, and staff by building a family culture within MLSoC.
  • That we may serve and shape the Industry through engagement and outreach.
  • That we may serve our constituents' safety, health, and well-being through design and our own safety culture.
  • That we may serve the future through collaborative discovery and innovation.

Principles in Action

  • Student and faculty mentorship programs
  • A variety of service-learning experiences
  • Scholarships to help make college more affordable and ease financial stressors
  • Student organizations that create a supportive community away from home
  • Career fairs and social events that build academic, social, and professional community
  • One-on-one relationships with academic advisors to create academic plans based on individual student needs

Get Involved

We encourage you all to get engaged and work toward building communities, whether through participation in MLSoC initiatives or through Student Affairs programs.

Ambassador Program

MLSoC Ambassadors are some of the first people to welcome new students and their families to MLSoC. Ambassadors lead orientation activities and serve as good peer points-of-contact.

Mentorship Programs

Our programs match MLSoC students with industry mentors. The purpose of these programs is to support early and sustained academic and career success. Mentors provide personal and professional support.

Events

MLSoC hosts a number of events throughout the year that encourage students, faculty and staff to get to know one another in an informal, welcoming atmosphere.

Pop-Up Lunches

These are held regularly in the lawn outside or the third floor of Bishop-Favrao Hall. The free meals serve to provide an informal setting where students can meet new people or catch up with old friends.

Student Spaces

MLSoC is fortunate to occupy two buildings, Bishop-Favrao Hall and Hitt Hall, dedicated to construction education and our students. Each building includes a dedicated space for classroom learning, research, and innovation, as well as spaces dedicated to the student experience.

Third-Floor Collaboration Area

Outside of the offices of many professors and advisors is a large collaboration area, specifically designed for our students. This is a great studio area to meet with your classmates to work on projects, study together, or have lunch. It's also frequently home to school-sponsored events.

Graduate Studio

Located on the fourth floor, this serves as the hub for many of our graduate students. Each cubicle is assigned to a student and has an attached kitchen equipped with a full-size refrigerator and microwave for all students to bring thier own lunch. This is a quiet space to allow for focused work.
