Degree

B.S. in Construction Engineering and Management, English Literature minor

Why did you choose Virginia Tech?

"I wanted to go to Virginia Tech for the strong academic programs. Being a large school, I have more options and flexibility to make my degree my own and focus on what I care about most. The strong alumni network showed me how proud people are to have a Virginia Tech degree and I wanted that feeling. Ultimately, though, I knew when I stepped on campus for the first time. Virginia Tech felt like home."

Why did you choose Construction Engineering and Management (CEM)?

"I didn't have any background in construction, but the coursework really resonated with me. I love the coordination aspect of project management and how tangible construction is. There is a growing demand for technical knowledge in construction across the board, and I felt like I was up for the challenge. I also wanted to know that I would have a job when I graduated, and this degree offered me that stability."

Career Goals

"I want to get my professional engineering licensure and pursue project management, working on healthcare or academic buildings. The specificity with which the space is designed and the detail in the design adds an extra challenge that I love. I am also interested in pursuing further education in construction law to strengthen my abilities in the field."

What would you tell students who are interested in joining the Myers-Lawson School of Construction (MLSoC)?

"As specific as a construction degree seems, it is actually pretty broad because of how complex the construction industry is. There are so many different directions you can go and all of them lead to a strong career when you graduate."
