Why did you choose Virginia Tech?
"Virginia Tech has a truly astounding culture. Both my uncle and dad attended this school, and my house has bled maroon and orange my entire life. I was wearing Hokie gear before I was old enough to know what Virginia Tech was. My father is a veteran, and the support that the Hokie community has shown to him both when he was activated to Operation Desert Storm as a college student and throughout the rest of his 34 years of service has shown me that 'Once a Hokie, always a Hokie' is not just a figure of speech. The Hokie community will support you today, tomorrow, and forever."
Why did you choose Construction Engineering and Management (CEM)?
"I originally applied to Virginia Tech as a Business Information Technology major. In the summer of my freshman year, I took a risk and decided to do an internship with W.M. Jordan Company with the intent of getting into the business side of construction. I immediately realized I was way more interested in understanding every decision made on the job site. I love the process of building, and I think building and problem-solving during construction enables people to get more into a flow state of concentration than anything else. Construction has all the tools to lead you to a career of fulfillment, camaraderie, and wealth."
Career Goals
"I would like to work in estimating and project management immediately out of college. Once I have a deep understanding of the industry, I plan on starting my own business as a cutting-edge HVAC manufacturer or in construction automation."
What would you tell students who are interested in joining the Myers-Lawson School of Construction (MLSoC)?
"I would tell students to take a look at some of the course titles in MLSoC and compare them to the other majors they are considering. Most people will find that the information taught in our school of construction is closer to on-the-job training than busy work or simply pursuing a degree. Every class you take within MLSoC will have a direct application to your future employment. Within MLSoC, you have access to a four-year training plan so when you graduate you not only feel prepared but confident and excited."
