B.S. in Construction Engineering and Management

Why did you choose Virginia Tech?

"Virginia Tech provided me with both educational and extracurricular opportunities that were not accessible to me in my home state. During my college application process, I made the decision to look at schools out of state with an appreciation for the engineering disciplines affiliated with construction. Virginia Tech not only checked all the boxes, but also provided the support necessary for me to make an informed decision and acclimate into university life. The support I received affirmed my decision, and has shaped my perspective as a first generation college student."

Why did you choose Construction Engineering and Management (CEM)?

"Construction Engineering and Management provides the fundamental knowledge for those who want to delve further into engineering disciplines that are inside or adjacent to construction operations. The course map and class options allowed me to tailor my education based on my interests. This was much more enticing to me rather than a generalized course map."

Career Goals

"I intend to take my Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) Exam during my senior year so I am able to graduate as an Engineer in Training (EIT). It is becoming a trend for many project owners to require even project management team members to be licensed professional engineers. Following my education, I intend to go into temporary works engineering and might even establish a consulting or development firm with those I build connections with during my career."

What would you tell students who are interested in joining the Myers-Lawson School of Construction (MLSoC)?

"If you intend to or believe that you will be involved in the construction industry for your career, MLSoC provides resources, faculty, and programs that are hard to rival. You share many classes with your peers and have the opportunity to form close bonds with them. We hold many events and provide opportunities for our students to network with alumni and industry professionals — the insight gained from these individuals' perspectives have proven to be priceless for many MLSoC students, including myself."
