The Myers-Lawson School of Construction (MLSoC) alumni and industry partners played with a purpose at the 2021 Virginia Builders Foundation (VBF) Golf Tournament. The annual event, which took place on October 21, 2021, teed up $25,000 for student scholarships.

With a sunny, 70-degree backdrop, the tournament took place at Spring Creek Golf Club in Zion Crossroads, VA. It included 36 unique company sponsors and participants, including Tournament Sponsor D.R. Horton, Course Beverage Sponsor MEB, Reception Beverage Sponsor Harkins, Reception Sponsor Hourigan, and Win a Truck Sponsor Leebcor.

The 27 teams of 4 included industry leaders, alumni, and current students including Building Construction senior Rose Moss.

“Participating in the Virginia Builders Foundation Golf Tournament as a student was a great experience,” said Moss. “It was amazing and encouraging to see so many supporters of the Myers-Lawson School of Construction take time out of their schedules to play in the foundation's tournament.”

Top teams and players of the day received awards during a reception  on the course patio at the end of the day.

The VBF serves as a partner of MLSoC, providing support to the school. John Barksdale (BC 2011) and Jeff Shifflett (BC 2011), founded the VBF with the goal of supporting the MLSoC in becoming the best construction school in the country. The golf tournament creates an annual networking opportunity for current students, alumni, faculty, and industry professionals, while raising funds to support the program’s most critical initiatives.

“We’re excited to keep growing this tradition year over year,” said Barksdale.

This is the second year the Virginia Builders Foundation has hosted the golf tournament. Last year, they raised $15,000 in scholarship funding.
