Role and Background

Dr. Xuan Lv serves as an Assistant Collegiate Professor for Building Construction in the Myers-Lawson School of Construction. He joined Virginia Tech in 2023.

Dr. Lv’s teaching focuses on fundamentals of construction technology and process. In his current role, Dr. Lv is exploring how emerging technologies such as Artificial Intelligence is transforming the traditional construction processes. He aims to impact the construction industry through cultivating the innovation mindsets of future professionals.

His research focuses on data-driven human-sensitive infrastructure decision making. He is exploring how artificial intelligence techniques can optimize the planning, design, operation, and maintenance of modern infrastructure systems to achieve synergistic alignment of intelligence, efficiency, and environmental conscious. 

Previously, he served as Assistant Professor for the Moss Department of Construction Management at Florida International University before joining Virginia Tech.

Education

Dr. Lv holds a Ph.D. and a master’s degree in Civil and Environmental Engineering from University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign and a bachelor’s degree in Management Science and Engineering from Wuhan University, China.
