Responsibilities
Sara Phillips serves as the Human Resources Coordinator and liaison between the Myers-Lawson School of Construction, the College of Engineering HR function, and Virginia Tech's central HR Department, employees, and multiple working groups to streamline all HR transactions and collect and disseminate timely information. Phillps is also responsible for processing all J-1 requests; recruiting, hiring, and conducting on and off-boarding processes for all level appointments. She also works with multiple levels of employees to develop, plan, and execute projects to fulfill all HR needs. She assists with promotion and tenure processes and procedures for tenure-track and non-tenure-track faculty, assisting with recruitment strategies to attract a robust and diverse workforce, completing all personnel appointments, and updating employees’ records including hiring, separation, promotions, and more. Phillips also works with the Virginia Tech International Support Services office to ensure all international visitors and students within the school have proper work authorizations and handles all matters in a strictly confidential nature. She also processes all graduate contracts for incoming and returning graduate students.
Education
Phillps holds a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from Liberty University. She is working towards her MBA in Business Administration from Liberty University.
Background
Philips joined Virginia Tech in 2013 and most recently served as Program Support Tech Senior for the Mechanical Engineering Department’s Center for Vehicle Systems and Safety before joining the Myers-Lawson School of Construction in 2020. She began her time at Virginia Tech in the University Controller’s office as a Travel Analyst. Prior to joining the university, she worked at Shelor Motor Mile as a Financial and Administrative Assistant.
