Role and Background
Dr. Kereshmeh Afsari serves as the Assistant Professor for Construction Engineering and Management. She joined Virginia Tech in 2019.
Dr. Afsari’s research focuses on emerging technologies in design and construction. In her current research, Dr. Afsari is exploring construction robotics in assisting construction inspectors for automated construction inspection and monitoring. She aims to impact effective human-robot teaming with a novel approach in future construction inspection.
Dr. Afsari is the founder and managing director of the Automation and Robotics in Construction and Design Engineering (ARCADE) research lab. She leads multiple interdisciplinary research projects in the next generation of the built environment technologies leveraging innovative solutions for building design and construction engineering.
Previously, Dr. Afsari served as Assistant Professor of Construction Management Technology with joint appointment in Computer Graphics Technology for Purdue University before joining the Myers-Lawson School of Construction. She has over six years of experience in design and construction management in medium to large-scale projects including healthcare, commercial, residential, and industrial buildings as well as technology development for the architecture, engineering and construction industry.
Education
Dr. Afsari holds a Ph.D. degree in Architecture (Design Computation) from Georgia Institute of Technology and a M.S. degree in Digital Architectural Design from Salford University, UK, and a joint B.S./M.S. degree in Architectural Engineering from Iran University of Science and Technology.
