Role and Background

Lisa Tenley, M.A., serves as the Associate Director for Outreach and Industry Engagement and is a Professor of Practice. She joined Virginia Tech in 2025 after a career that included roles in higher education and the construction industry; she most recently served as a Vice President at a general contractor, where she was responsible for the human resources, marketing, and public relations functions. Throughout her time in the private sector, Lisa worked closely with MLSoC, serving as a mentor, guest lecturer, and member of the Industry Advisory Council.

At MLSoC, Lisa is responsible for cultivating, enhancing, and increasing construction industry engagement with the school. She leads MLSoC’s communication strategy, continually looking for new ways to showcase the groundbreaking research coming from our world-class faculty and sharing inspiring stories about our stellar undergraduate and graduate programs. Leveraging both her construction-industry expertise with a strong academic background in higher education administration, student development, and teaching, Lisa is particularly interested in supporting the success of our students and building outstanding construction professionals.

Education

Lisa holds a B.A. in Psychology and an M.A. in College Student Personnel from the University of Maryland.
