Steve Douglas

Academic Advisor, Myers-Lawson School of Construction

Role and Background

Steve serves as an Academic Advisor for the Myers-Lawson School of Construction.  Steve grew up in Blacksburg, Virginia and began his career in college admissions in 2017 as an Assistant Director of Admission at the Savannah College of Art and Design. He was elevated to Associate Director of Admission in 2022 and Director of Admission in 2025 before returning to Blacksburg in 2026 to work at Virginia Tech.  

Steve's personal advising philosophy includes flexible and accommodating advising that emphasizes empathy, robust accessibility, maintenance of work-life-study balance, creating a positive atmosphere, and demonstrating strength through resilience in trying times.

Steve's interests outside of work include aerial photography, cycling, content development, and building computers.

Education

Steve holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Film and Television with a minor in Advertising from the Savannah College of Art and Design.
