Role and Background

Mel Jones serves as the Associate Director for Virginia Center for Housing Research at Virginia Tech. She joined Virginia Tech in 2012.

Jones' research focuses on housing economics and planning. In her current research, she is exploring regional housing markets, rural housing affordability, and locally coordinated housing programs that promote regional housing plans. Jones aims to impact local housing policy and programs to increase availability and affordability across Virginia.

Previously, Jones served as Program Coordinator for the Café^2 program at Community Housing Partners.

Education

Jones holds a M.S. in Applied Economics from Virginia Tech and a Masters of Urban and Regional Planning from Virginia Tech. She is certified as Housing Development Finance Professional.
