Responsibilities

Curt Porterfield serves as an Adjunct Professor in Construction Engineering and Management and Health and Safety Training Coordinator for the Department of Environmental Health and Safety. He teaches CEM 3164 Construction Health and Safety Course for the Myers-Lawson School of Construction.  For the Office of Environmental Health and Safety he manages over 90 Health and Safety training topics in Biological, Chemical, Occupational, and Radiation for Virginia Tech faculty, staff and students.    

Education

Curt holds a Bachelor’s degree in Animal Science from Virginia Tech, and numerous certifications from professional organizations.

Background

Curt joined Virginia Tech in 1999 as a Research Specialist for the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences before taking his position as Health and Safety Training Coordinator. He teaches various Construction and General Industry related Safety courses as an Adjunct Instructor for New River Community College and the Chesapeake Region Safety Council’s Mid-Atlantic OSHA Training Institute and Education Center. He has a broad range of experience related to maintenance, production, research, and safety in Agriculture, Construction and General Industry areas.
